The SDG version of our drop deck trailers are designed for the most weight conscious users. They combine the advantages of the strongest steel in the lightest form possible, together with aluminum to produce a trailer that is lightweight and sturdy. The main rails, kingpin section, suspension and under-ride protection are made of steel and the balance of the trailer is all aluminum. That includes the front and rear bolster, knee braces, cross members and outside rails.
Five inch wide, grade 130 high tensile strength chrommoly steel is used for both top and bottom flanges which makes a stronger trailer and long service life.
Selecting BC inner fir assures that the best quality Canadian fir with the least possible knot, is used. The standard flooring is the best combination of durability, overall weight and cost. Each flooring board is fastened to each crossmember using two 5/16” screws.
Air and electrical lines from the front of the trailer are routed above the crossmembers, under the flanges and secured by the floor against the flange.
The aluminum air gauge box houses not only the air gauge but also the dump valve and if the trailer has extra lights such as strobe lights or wide-load lights, the switch will be in the box.
Rub rails have been removed at each fixed winch location, which permits complete access to the winch and allows for a long range of motion with the winch bar.
Camber is built into every beam to offset beam deflection under load. When loaded, the trailer runs flat and when unloaded the curved arch reappears.
The contender landing gear offers secure support and a large foot base, it also offers reduced weight typical for a aluminum / steel combination trailer where weight is a consideration.
Tubular aluminum knee braces, set at 48" o.c. are connected to the main beams with four huck bolts. Between the main beam and in line with the knee braces on each side, is a spacing beam also of tubular aluminum.
The aluminum outside rail is extruded using 6061-T6 alu. a very high strength and grade of material. The additional angles in the extrusion provides additional strength, permits the inner edge to rest on top of the crossmembers and also tucks under the floor which adds to the overall strength of the trailer.
The aluminum rub rail has a recess in the outward facing surface to accommodate and protect the conspicuity tape.
